How can a sexual abuse charge impact your life and reputation?
Sexual offenses, which are non-consensual acts, may include inappropriate/offensive touching, sexual battery, unlawful sexual contact, and rape.
The sexual assault of children is universally considered one of the most deplorable of all crimes, but when the alleged perpetrator is a priest, the reaction is kicked up to lynch mob proportions.
Recently, an investigation was launched against a former Hudson County priest with respect to allegations of sexual abuse dating back twenty years to when the priest was ministering at St. John of Nepomucene Parish in GuttenbergThough specific details regarding the alleged abuse are not yet public in the Guttenberg case, the priest has also recently been accused of sexual abuse by two other parishioners who were minors at the time of the alleged incidents approximately thirty years ago when the priest was assigned to St. Cassain’s Parish in Montclair.
The male parishioner and former altar boy claimed that when he was 12, the priest fondled him repeatedly in the confessional, kissed him, and gave him wine. A female parishioner alleges she was molested by the priest in her home and on a trip to Pennsylvania when she was 13 or 14.
The priest, who disputes the allegations, has been relieved of his latest duties as a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He has also given up two positions with the Newark Archdiocese.
